My Adventure:

When I first started telling everyone I was going to Oxnard with TWF, often the first response was, “why?” Funny how things change, after my return listeners are coming out of the cyberspace with emails telling me they love Oxnard and have a summer retreat there, so why the disconnect? I have no clue, however what I do know is that Oxnard is a true hidden gem.

My first thoughts of Oxnard was how old meets new, the ocean meets agriculture, people are friendly, the weather is perfect, and everywhere you go its affordable. I stayed at the Mandalay Beach Hotel & Resort, all suites, and right along the coastline. Beaches are steps away, about 10 steps out your door.

Recently a AAA Four Diamond Award winner, this nine acre property is wonderful, and is affordable… you won’t find this very often along the coast. I enjoyed fine dining at The Waterside, and fish n’ chips along the docks, both completely different, and both completely delicious.

I played golf at the River Ridge Golf Club, perfect weather, two championship golf courses, and just enough trouble to keep the game interesting, however there were good scores all around. I toured the Historic District, named after founder Henry T. Oxnard, I want one of those homes. Then I shopped at the new upscale shopping district called The Collection.

I can easily go on and on about my trip to Oxnard, California….only 35 miles west of Los Angeles and an hour by boat from the Channel Islands. I suggest you open all of the links above, and plan your Oxnard retreat today.

Next time you are on U.S. 101, remember, you don’t need to travel farther than Oxnard to enjoy the perfect beachfront adventure!
